Define, track, and perfect your trading setups
Playbooks are reusable templates for your trading setups. Each playbook defines the rules and criteria for a specific strategy—entry conditions, exit rules, and risk parameters. By codifying your setups, you can objectively track how well you follow your own rules and measure which strategies actually perform best.

To create a playbook, navigate to the Playbooks page and click New Playbook. Each playbook consists of:
Be as specific as possible. Vague rules like "enter when it looks right" defeat the purpose. Instead, use concrete criteria like "price pulls back to VWAP with delta divergence on the footprint."
The rule builder lets you define structured criteria for each phase of your trade. Rules are organized into three categories:
Each rule is evaluated as a checkbox when you review a trade. Did you follow this rule? Yes or no. This binary assessment makes adherence scoring objective and consistent.
Every trade linked to a playbook receives an adherence score based on how many rules you followed. Scores are graded A through F:
| Grade | Adherence | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| A | 90-100% | Excellent discipline, followed nearly all rules |
| B | 80-89% | Good execution with minor deviations |
| C | 70-79% | Average, several rules broken |
| D | 60-69% | Poor adherence, significant rule violations |
| F | Below 60% | Strategy was largely abandoned |
View adherence trends over time with built-in charts. Filter by date range—7 days, 30 days, 90 days, month-to-date, year-to-date, or a custom range—to spot patterns in your discipline.
The rule breakdown table shows which specific rules are violated most often, helping you identify exactly where your discipline breaks down.
Share your playbooks with your team or the broader Profitabul community. Shared playbooks let others import your strategy template and adapt it to their own trading.
Use the comparison view to evaluate playbooks side by side. This helps you answer the question: which of my strategies actually performs best?
When reviewing a trade in your journal, you can associate it with one of your playbooks. This creates a two-way link:
Over time, this builds a comprehensive dataset showing exactly how each strategy performs when you follow it versus when you deviate.
