Expected daily range by day of week for target sizing
Not all trading days are created equal. Some weekdays consistently produce larger ranges while others tend to be tighter. This report breaks down expected session range by day of week so you can calibrate your targets and stops.
| Day | Typical Range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | Below average | Price discovery after weekend; institutions positioning |
| Tuesday | Above average | Full institutional participation begins |
| Wednesday | Highest average | Often the most volatile day; FOMC days |
| Thursday | Above average | Continuation or reversal of mid-week move |
| Friday | Below average | Reduced range as positions squared before weekend |
Use weekday range expectations to set realistic profit targets. If Friday's average range is 30 points on ES but you're targeting a 50-point move, the statistics are against you. Conversely, on high-range days like Wednesday, you can afford to let winners run further.
